Privacy Policy

Catfish Detector ("the app") is built to be private by default. The short version: your photos and camera frames never leave your device, and we don't collect your personal data.

What we collect

Nothing personal. The app has no account system and does not ask for your name, email, or identity. We do not operate servers that receive your images.

Photos & camera

  • Analysis of a face — whether from the live camera or a photo you choose — happens entirely on your device using a model bundled in the app.
  • Images and camera frames are never uploaded to us or any third party.
  • Your scan history (thumbnails and verdicts) is stored only on your device. You can delete it anytime in the app, or by removing the app.

Face data

Catfish Detector analyses faces in order to estimate whether a photo has been AI-enhanced or beauty-filtered. Because face data is sensitive, this section sets out exactly how it is handled.

What face data the app processes

  • When you point the camera at a face, or select a photo, the app uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to locate the rectangular position of a face within the image.
  • That face region is passed to a machine-learning model bundled inside the app, which outputs a single number: an estimated probability that the face has been AI-enhanced or filtered.
  • The app does not create, derive or store a faceprint, face template, face geometry map, facial embedding or any other biometric identifier. It does not attempt to recognise, identify or match a person, and it cannot tell who anyone is.

How face data is used

Face data is used for one purpose only: producing the on-screen verdict and confidence score for the photo you are looking at. It is not used for advertising, profiling, identification, model training, or any other purpose.

Sharing and disclosure

Face data is never shared with anyone. It is not transmitted to us, and it is not transmitted to any third party, cloud service or third-party AI service. The app performs all face analysis offline on your device and contains no code that uploads images or face data. Because no face data is ever shared with a third party, no third party receives it or processes it on our behalf.

Storage and retention

  • Live camera frames are processed in memory and discarded immediately. They are never written to disk.
  • The face position and probability score exist only for as long as needed to display the result, and are then discarded.
  • If a scan is saved to your history, a thumbnail of the photo and its verdict are written to the app's private storage area on your device only. We retain nothing, because we receive nothing — we operate no server that stores your images or face data.
  • On-device history is retained until you delete it, or until you delete the app. There is no fixed expiry because the data never leaves your control.

Deleting face data and withdrawing consent

  • You can delete any saved scan, or clear your entire scan history, from the History tab inside the app at any time.
  • Deleting the app removes all locally stored scans and thumbnails from your device.
  • You can withdraw consent for face analysis at any time by revoking camera access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Catfish Detector, or by revoking photo access in the same place. The app will then stop analysing faces. No request to us is required, since we hold no copy of your data.

Subscriptions

Optional Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store using Apple's own StoreKit framework. We never see your payment details. Apple may process purchase data under its own privacy policy. The app does not use any third-party subscription-management or analytics provider, and no photo or face data is involved in the purchase process.

Analytics & tracking

The app does not include advertising SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites. If basic, anonymous crash or usage diagnostics are added in future, they will never include your images or face data, and this policy will be updated first.

Third-party services

The app does not send your personal data, photos or face data to any third party, including any third-party AI service. All AI analysis is performed by a model bundled in the app and executed locally on your device. The only network connection the app can make is opening its own App Store page if you choose to share the app.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Because we don't collect or store your personal data on any server, there is no account to access or erase on our side. You remain in full control of the on-device data, which you can delete at any time.

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
